With the introduction of so many Android apps, 1t’s time to turn towards reviewing some best Android PDF Readers available for pdf file viewing in android devices. After a lot of googling and using these apps on my Android gadget, I came up with these 8 Android PDF Readers that seemed worth noticing to me to write about. Some of these apps are free while others are paid apps with better adpatation for android tablets like motorolla Xoom and galaxy tab etc.
Here goes the list.
1. BeamReader PDF Viewer.
BeamReader PDF Viewer is developed by SLG Mobile, Inc. This Android PDF Reader you the freedom of viewing your pdf files with almost desktop functionality in a small screen. Most notable features of this app include test wrap view, clickable links, text search in opened pdf file. It’s pretty handy app and way looks than adobe reader.

- Paid application, although it’s available for 10-day trial. Full version can be purchased for $9.99.
2. MobilePDFViewer .
MobilepdfViewer is a simple and quite fast Android PDF Reader. This is available as a free version and a $0.95 full version, developed by Joerg Jahnke. It can also open mail attachments as well. Better compatibility with the android tablet devices is another plus point. Sadly, it is not able to open images in your pdf files.
Features:
- Pinch zoom available now.
- Opens saved pdf files.
- Opens mail attachments.
- Simple to use.
Downside:
- Would not open few pdf files.
- Clumsy controls.
- Sometimes, failed to appear in running app list.
- No zoom to actual content width feature.
- Will not open images in pdf files.
Compatiblity:
- Android 2.2 and higher.
3. PDF Viewer.
By combining easy-to-use and not-heavy-on-resources during multitasking, this Android PDF Reader for your android device beats many of the rivals including some on-board PDF apps. This first-class Open Source app is available free on the Android Market and appbrain also. This app was developed by Maciej. I can safely say it a definite keeper because of its combination of qualities.
Features:
- Completely free.
- Easy to use.
- Very light on resources during multitasking.
- Open source.
- Good for slower phones.
Downside:
- Force closes does not work sometime.
- Seems defective on few phones.
Compatibility:
- All android versions.
4. PDF to Speech.
Although, not truly a Android PDF Reader, but still PDF to Speech will manage to tell you what’s inside the pdf document! Not bad if you feel comfortable though in this way.
The benefits of such an app are obvious – spend less and get more productivity. Becomes more useful when you are on the go, for example, during driving or travel.
PDF to Speech has received excellent reviews from the users.
Features:
- Listen to your pdf files.
- Pretty handy during driving.

I have reviewed 10 of the best apps available for video chatting with your Facebook friends. Even better, these are free! Check it out.
Downside:
- You cannot read actually.
- Paid app.
- app will now work with the Motorola Xoom.
Compatibiltiy:
- All Android versions.
5. RepliGo for android.
RepliGo Reader is the first and only Android PDF Reader that enables both viewing and commenting on PDF files. Review documents on the go by adding highlights, cross outs, underlines, sticky notes and freehand drawings. Comments are stored as standard annotations in the original PDF file, just like Adobe® Acrobat®.
RepliGo Android PDF Reader mixes smoothly with Gmail, Dropbox, Evernote and numerous other applications. It also makes a great eBook reader, with features like night mode and an intelligent reading view. Definitely, the best pdf tool for android in my view. Its available on androlib.
Features:
- Fast, and can jump to pages easily.
- Easy and lightning fast
- Text auto fitting to the screen.
- Excellent for editing/commenting/annotating pdf files.
- Alternative to eBook reader.
Downside:
- Paid app. Available for 4.99 dollars. (I wouldn’t mind paying for this!)
Compatibility:
- Android version 2.1 and higher.
6. Pdf to Go.
Unfortunately this killer app for pdf reading is not available as a standalone Android PDF Reader for download. Instead, it is a part of Document to Go app and document to Go is a paid app with plenty of other features also as the name suggest. Nevertheless, I will only focus on the pdf 2 Go part of this app.
If RepliGo is the killer of other android based pdf readers, this excellent app could be an alarming threat to even Repligo. While missing pinch-to-zoom, the app features a very speedy and smooth tap-to-zoom in and out system that is easy to use with one-handed operation. PDF to Go’s text wrap feature is a pleasure to use as the text is rendered very quickly and at a font size that is easily read (for my eyes) without additional need to zoom in or out. Document to go is avaiable here.
Features:
- The ability to save the PDF to a user-defined folder on the SD card.
- The ability to email the PDF directly out of the app.
- Ability to copy selected text to the device’s clipboard and paste it into any other app.
- Hyperlink support.
- Multipage rendering.
- Pretty useful keypad shortcuts.
Downside:
- Paid. No other downside I could find.
7. ThinkFree PDF Viewer.
Like pdf 2 Go, ThinkFree PDF Viewer is also not a standalone app rather it’s a part of ThinkFree office for mobile android edition that is obviously not a free application. ThinkFree PDF reader for anroid offers some excellent features like Email Attachment Support, Search Text, Multiple Zoom Levels etc.
Feature:
Password-protected PDF files
Search function.
Email Attachment Support.
Zoom function.
Easy Zoom (Double-Tap & Pinch)
Native PDF Viewing.
Downside
- Paid app.
Compatibility:
- Android 2.0 or higher for Editor
- Android 1.5 or higher for Viewer
8. Adobe Reader for android.
Last but not least is Adobe pdf Reader for android. It’s simply not astonishing to see Adobe her. After all, they have built a brand name for pdf files viewing on desktop and they want to take share for android devices also. It replicates the desktop experience as closely as possible on your mobile handset. This android pdf reader is available here.
Features:
- Absolutely free.
- Opens email attachments as well as saved files.
- Supports touch gestures such as Flick & Panning for pdf file navigation.
- Search for specific text
- Page Navigator interface
- Share function allows you to send pdf files through email.
- Multi-language support.
Downside:
- Problematic for very large pdf files
- Extremely pronounced lag when zooming the page.
- Heavy on resources.
Compatibility:
Latest version Adobe reader 10 for Android version 2.1 and higher.
My Pick for a Paid app: RepliGo for android.
My Pick for a free app: Adobe Reader for android.

Dear Noor, that;s a nice review and I would to like to go one step further. Would you please advise me to purchase a paid android pdf reader or free reader is also sufficient? Also please review some file manager for android also.
thanks.
I would like to have ThinkFree PDF Viewer as a stand alone reader.its really nice but alone!
I use PDF viewer by maciej. I love that I am now able to read attachments in mails with no trouble.

Ezpdf is great better than adobe. Organize in file, highlight, annotate etc. Fast page turning will pause to load. Opens all PDF well and does speech, pics, and links.
I am using BeamReader PDF Viewer and the thing I liked most about it is the fast rendering capability of this app. At times it becomes slow to load also but overall experience is nice.
I like qPDF Viewer! It's free, fast, and easy to navigate around the PDFs! I'm planning to buy their other app, qPDF Notes, so I can also fill forms, markup PDFs, and then send them out in email!
Our qPDF Notes users seem to like the continuous page view, easy pinch and spread zoom, and that the markups they add are saved as real PDF markups, so they can be viewed in Adobe Reader, too.
Nice Overview. You exchanged your favorite paid and free app at the end.
Oh. No one pointed out this. Thanks D. I have corrected it.
> app will now work with the Motorola Xoom
That's a downside for PDF to Speech?
Is there any application in any of those listed above that can translate the word in another language when tapped on that word ?
Let say I don' know the word 'book' in English and when I tap on that word the German meaning of 'book' appears.
@Anonymous
That's a nice idea but I think I never came across such a pdf reader that translate the words without pasting it into a word translator app etc.
Are there PDF readers on Android that lets you open multiple PDF files at once (multi-task)? This way if I need to read 2 or more PDF files, I can switch back and forth and still be on the same page in each one.
Do you know if any of these support searching for text across multiple documents?
Nice list you have here. Thanks for sharing!
I suggest you check EbookDroid, has excellent horizontal scroll with 2-page and even 3 page view - and very fast. Greta for reading magazines or illustrated books that have pictures in 2 pages. Took me a long time to find this.

How can I zoom in on a PDF file when using the "PDF Reader" add on for the Dolphin Browser on a Motorola Xoom tablet ?
Please add to review Foobnix PDF Reader I know it's good enough for review. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foobnix.pdf.reader Thanks
I'm looking for a reader with both of the following features:
- dark mode
- text wrap
You would think this would be simple to find, but I've installed countless readers and have yet to find one with both features. Can anyone help?? Thanks!!
